Theo J. Mertzimekis is an Associate Professor of Nuclear Physics in the Department of Physics at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He holds a PhD from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey (USA). His main research interests include experimental investigations of nuclear matter, focusing mostly on the electromagnetic properties of unstable isotopes, as well as nuclear astrophysics and a wide range of applications of nuclear radiations. He has long experience working with large scale instrumentation at international facilities (such as NSCL, ISOLDE, GANIL, GSI/FAIR, Berkeley Lab and more), being a member of world-class research collaborations and scientific societies. He has a strong teaching record and has received various distinctions for his work over the years, including an Academy of Athens award in Experimental Physics.
